A free alternative to Midjourney’s /describe

Midjourney’s /describe command only works inside a paid Midjourney plan. ph-imetix does the same job in your browser for free. Upload an image, choose how many variations you want, and copy the prompt you like. You also get a descriptive title and up to 50 keywords, which /describe doesn’t give you.

ph-imetix Midjourney /describe
Price Free Needs a paid Midjourney plan
Prompt variations 1, 3 or 5 Several suggestions
Writing tone 14 tones to choose from Fixed
Title and keywords Yes, 5–50 keywords No
Works for other generators Yes, plain text Tuned to Midjourney

Many creators use both: ph-imetix for detailed, editable descriptions and keywords, and /describe for Midjourney’s own phrasing.

How to use the prompt in Midjourney

  1. Generate prompts above (the Vivid tone is pre-selected) and copy the one closest to your image.
  2. In Midjourney, start a new prompt (/imagine in Discord, or the prompt bar on the website) and paste it.
  3. Add parameters at the end, for example --ar 3:2 --stylize 200.
  4. Generate, pick the best of the grid, then vary or upscale it.
  5. For a closer match, also add your image as a style reference with --sref.

Useful Midjourney parameters

Parameter What it does Example
–ar Aspect ratio of the image –ar 16:9 for banners, –ar 2:3 for posters
–stylize How much of Midjourney’s own artistic style to add –stylize 50 (literal) to –stylize 750 (artistic)
–chaos How different the four images in a grid are –chaos 30 for more variety
–no Things to leave out –no text, watermark
–sref Copy the visual style of a reference image –sref [image URL]
–seed Repeat a result more consistently –seed 1234

Parameters change between Midjourney versions, so check Midjourney’s own documentation for the version you use.

What makes a good Midjourney prompt

  • Subject first: who or what is in the image, and what they are doing.
  • Style and medium: photo, oil painting, 3D render, anime, watercolour.
  • Light and colour: golden hour, soft studio light, neon, pastel palette.
  • Camera details: close-up, wide angle, 85 mm lens, shallow depth of field.
  • Mood: one or two strong words such as “melancholic” or “playful”.

Our AI writes all five for you, so you can focus on refining. The full list of what it analyses is on the home page.

Example: from image to Midjourney

Reference: a cozy café photo with warm window light.

Generated (Vivid tone): “Cozy corner café bathed in warm afternoon window light, steaming latte on a rustic wooden table, soft bokeh of hanging plants, film photography look, gentle amber tones, quiet and inviting atmosphere”

Ready for Midjourney: … inviting atmosphere --ar 4:5 --stylize 150

Matching a style more closely

  • Generate 5 variants and keep the style words that appear in most of them.
  • Use your reference as --sref and the text prompt together.
  • Lower --stylize if Midjourney keeps adding its own look.
  • Change one word at a time. Our prompt tips explain what to change first.

Common mistakes

  • Writing parameters inside the sentence instead of at the end.
  • Asking for several unrelated subjects in one prompt.
  • Expecting an exact copy. Prompts recreate the style and subject, not the identical image.
  • Using names of living artists or real people. Describe the style instead.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use these prompts in the latest Midjourney version?

Yes. The prompts are plain descriptive text, which works in every Midjourney version. Add version and aspect-ratio parameters yourself.

Is this better than /describe?

It is free, works outside Midjourney, lets you choose a tone and also gives a title and 5–50 keywords. /describe is tuned to Midjourney. Many creators use both.

Will Midjourney recreate my exact image?

No prompt reproduces an image exactly. Use the prompt together with –sref or an image prompt for the closest result.

Which tone is best for Midjourney?

Vivid gives rich, artistic language that suits Midjourney. Try Direct or Simplified when you want more literal results.

Do I need a Midjourney subscription?

You need one to generate images in Midjourney, but not to create prompts here. The prompts also work in free tools.

Can I use the prompts with Niji (anime) mode?

Yes. Paste the prompt and add the Niji parameter for your Midjourney version.
