Stop tagging stock photos by hand

Keywording is the slowest part of uploading to stock sites. ph-imetix reads your image and returns a long descriptive title and as many relevant keywords as you choose, from 5 to 50. Copy them all with one click and paste them into the contributor upload form. This page pre-selects 49 keywords, Adobe Stock’s limit.

Keyword limits by agency

Agency Max keywords Tip
Adobe Stock 49 The first 10 keywords matter most: reorder them
Shutterstock 50 Choose the 50 preset
Freepik, Dreamstime, 123RF Varies Check each contributor guide and set the slider to match
Pinterest / blogs No fixed limit 10–25 focused keywords usually work best

Agency rules can change, so check the current contributor guidelines before a big upload.

A 30-second upload workflow

  1. Upload the image above (Formal tone and 49 keywords are pre-selected). For several files, switch to Batch mode and upload up to 10.
  2. Copy the title and shorten it to one clear sentence.
  3. Click Copy all and paste the keywords into the upload form.
  4. Move the 10 most important keywords to the top.
  5. Delete anything that isn’t clearly visible in the image.

With a free account every result is saved to your dashboard, which helps with batches of similar files.

Tips that help your files sell

  • Put the most important keywords first. Main subject, concept and setting belong at the top.
  • Remove anything not visible. Irrelevant tags can get files rejected.
  • Add concepts buyers search for: “teamwork”, “sustainability”, “remote work”.
  • Avoid trademarks and brand names in titles and keywords.
  • Don’t copy one keyword set across very different images.

The full method is in our Adobe Stock keyword guide.

Turning the title into a stock title

Generated: “A minimalist sunset illustration with a perfectly round yellow sun resting on a dark horizon line, set against a smooth gradient sky that fades from warm amber orange to dusky purple…”

Stock title: “Minimalist sunset illustration with yellow sun and amber to purple gradient sky”

Keep the subject, style and one or two key details. Write it like a search phrase, not a sentence of keywords.

Uploading AI-generated images

If the file was made with generative AI, tick Adobe Stock’s “Created using generative AI tools” option, and don’t mention real people, brands or artists. Some agencies don’t accept AI images at all, so check each policy first. Planning AI images to sell? See the Midjourney prompt generator and the product photography prompts guide.

Beyond stock sites

  • Pinterest: use 10–15 keywords in the pin description and the title as the pin title.
  • Blogs and shops: use the title as a starting point for image alt text.
  • Portfolios: use keywords as tags on Behance or your own site.
